Hello! I've been gardening for most of my adult life and prior to that as a child and a teenager with my parents. Here I would like to exchange tips and lessons learned on lower-maintenance, permaculture style gardens that include perennial vegetables and herbs. Recently, I wrote a blogpost "Perennial Vegetable Garden" for Neighbours for the Planet website sharing my experience with some easy perennials for the productive garden. I would like to continue the discussion and gardening wisdom exchange here.

Wow, fantastic work Dinah! Thanks for posting and sharing your journey with us!
Congrats Dinah, this is amazing! Here is to a happy and fruitful gardening season!
Yesterday was a big day! I was allocated my half plot by the Forster Garden collective on the weekend and had my orientation. Yesterday I dug over my personal plot.
Almost 4 hours in the morning, retired at the hottest time of day, and returned for an hour in the evening.
Planning to plant with potatoes, beans and squash/ pumpkin. As this is virgin farm land, I will stay away from the less robust crops until next year.
I shall also be putting sweat equity into the communal plot, the proceeds of which will be donated.
Wish me luck!
Pull the rhubarb stalk upwards and it will break away from the plant without damaging it. Cutting the stalk will harm the plant.
Thanks for all this great information, Julia! May I add a tremendous attribute of rhubarb: When you harvest, take a knife NEVER CUT RHUBARB , pull it! Use the knife to remove the inedible big leaves. Set them anywhere you want nothing to grow. Perfect, safe total herbicide!
Mine is coming on nicely, taken today.
Julia's article has been posted and can be found here. It is an excellent article with lots of great tips!
