NEWS!! We are happy to announce that MPP Stan Cho, Councillor John Filion's Chief of Staff, Markus O'Brien Fehr, and Councillor Mark Grimes from Ward 3 will be attending the event. Trustee Alexander Brown and our Superintendent Dom Giorgi are doing their best to attend as well.
And, we have two guests who will give very short presentations (so as to protect time for community networking): Kim Stemshorn will be speaking for Transform TO and Dianne Saxe has volunteered her time to share her expertise.
Dianne Saxe, Ph.D. in Law and Senior Fellow, Massey College, is one of Canada’s most respected environmental lawyers. She was the Environmental Commissioner of Ontario 2015 – 2019, reporting to the Legislature on environment, energy and climate. She heads SaxeFacts, focusing on the climate crisis, and hosts the Green Economy Heroes podcast. Currently, she is one of the Deputy leaders of the Ontario Green Party and a Green Party candidate in University-Rosedale.
Kim Stemshorn, a representative from Transform TO, will help the community understand the climate targets the city has set and the strategies and resources they have available to help residents reach these goals. Kim is currently the coordinator of Smart Commute, works in Outreach & Engagement with the Environment & Energy Division of the City of Toronto.
At this event, you will choose between 3 breakout room discussions on: Climate, Justice, and Oceans.
This event will be about hearing your plans and accessing your expertise. We already understand the situation and we already know what needs to be done. Now we need to get the actions started here in Willowdale, and we want you to meet your neighbours who have bought electric vehicles, installed solar panels and heat pumps, retrofitted their homes, begun eating vegetarian meals, and advocated for justice and equity. We want to give you a place to help each other change our Ward.
